FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne police are investigating after a child was apparently shot in an alley Tuesday night.
Around 10:15 p.m., police were dispatched to an alley behind 2930 South Hanna Street for an unknown problem.
City police spokesperson Officer Jason Anthony said officers found a 3-year-old girl with an injury to her leg. The child was taken to the hospital in fair condition. Police have not released the name of the child.
Anthony said investigators were told a family was loading into a vehicle to leave the area when they heard a gunshot. The girl started screaming and the family called 911.
Anthony said officers canvassed the area asking neighbors and potential witnesses if they had seen or heard anything.
No weapon was found in the immediate area of where the girl was injured, according to Anthony.
Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
The incident remains under investigation.
