INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A doctor who performs abortions in Fort Wayne, Gary and South Bend is scheduled to appear before the Indiana Medical Licensing Board to explain comments he allegedly made about not reporting an abortion on a 13-year-old.

The Times of Munster reports Dr. Ulrich Klopfer is scheduled to appear before the board Wednesday. Indiana Professional Licensing Agency spokeswoman Sue Swayze says Klopfer will go before the board for what is deemed a “personal appearance,” similar to a fact-finding hearing.

She says the board wants Klopfer to answer some questions. Swayze says he is required to report such abortions because of statutory rape laws.

Swayze says Klopfer’s medical license was up for renewal in October and the board renewed it with the stipulation it was “under review.”
