FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – UPDATE: The man who was shot and killed early Sunday morning at Dupont Bar & Grill has been identified.
The Allen County Coroner said he’s Damian J. Miller II, 32, of Fort Wayne. An autopsy Sunday found that he died of gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.
Miller is the first homicide in Fort Wayne and Allen County this year.
According to police, Miller and another man started fighting inside the bar at around 3:45 a.m. Both of the men then went outside and one of them was shot on the sidewalk in front of the bar.
NewsChannel 15 spoke with a co-worker of the victim who said he had worked with him for six months at Empire Industrial Equipment off of Dupont. The co-worker was with Miller at the bar when he was shot.
Christopher Bradley said he and Miller were bar hopping between the Rusty Spur and Dupont Bar and Grill after going to see a friend play at the Spur Saturday night. He said they were waiting on a friend who was a bartender at Dupont Bar and Grill to take them home.
Police said the bar was closed at the time and employees were making sure customers were leaving.
Bradley said after a few words were exchanged between his inebriated friend and the bouncer, the bouncer escorted them outside where they continued to wait for their ride. He then said the bouncer came back outside and started confronting Miller.
“A scuffle ensued and the bouncer fired two shots in my friend’s chest,” Bradley said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
As of Sunday afternoon, police said they do not have any suspects in custody.
The bar’s owner told NewsChannel 15 he would not comment on whether or not a bar employee was involved.
Dupont Bar & Grill is located at 10336 N. Clinton Street on the north side of Fort Wayne.
NewsChannel 15 has learned that Miller had a criminal record. He was a suspect in an armed robbery case at a local Walgreens back in December 2007.
The incident is still under investigation. Police expect more information to be released Tuesday.
