ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – The Allen County Coroner has identified the man who was shot and killed on the southeast side of the county Saturday night.
Officers were first called to the 4900-block of E. Tillman Road on a report of shots fired around 8 p.m. Saturday.
Police said Jovon Clarkson Harvey, 44, of Fort Wayne, was shot in the front yard of a house there. Twilla Tracey lived a couple houses down from Harvey. She saw and heard what happened that night.
“Me and my husband was in the front room watching television and we heard a bunch of pops,” she said. “First I thought it was firecrackers, and then my husband told me that it was gunshots and said stay away from the windows and door.”
NewsChannel 15’s crew at the scene said there were a lot of shell casings in the front yard. Tracey said she remembers shots being fired near Harvey’s home a couple days before he was shot.
“Just a few nights before that happened, I was in the front room watching T.V., and I heard this popping, a lot of popping. It was about 10 or 12 times,” she said.
As of Monday, NewsChannel 15 called the Allen County Sheriff’s Department to see if there was an update on Saturday’s shooting; such as a suspect description or motive, but no other details about the shooting were given.
The coroner said Harvey died from gunshot wounds. His death was ruled a homicide.
Harvey’s death marks the 39th homicide in Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2013.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
