A man who was shot at an apartment complex on Hobson Road Friday afternoon has died.

Police responded to Baldwin Creek Apartments at around 2 p.m. on Friday after hearing reports of gunshots.

Officers arrived to find a man in front of the apartment building, located at 1920 Hobson Road, suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Upon his arrival at the hospital, a doctor pronounced him dead.

Police said a second shooting victim arrived at Parkview Randallia with a minor gunshot wound to his leg on Friday afternoon. He apparently provided his own transportation to the hospital. The victim was treated and released, according to police.

The second victim is being interviewed at police headquarters as of Friday evening. Detectives will then determine if the two shootings are related.

A FWPD Deputy Chief told a NewsChannel 15 reporter at the scene that investigators believe that the second victim was hit by a stray bullet.

Investigators believe the shooting happened inside an apartment. Detectives are in the process of determining if the shooting occurred inside the apartment building hallway or a specific apartment.

Several witnesses told police that the possible suspects fled the scene in a black Dodge Charger following the shooting.

Investigators located the car in a nearby neighborhood. Nobody was inside of the Charger when it was found, according to police.

Detectives are interviewing potential witnesses and tenants of the nearby apartment buildings and businesses.  Crime Scene Technicians are also processing the scene and collecting evidence.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity, along with the cause and manner of death, after an autopsy is completed.

Fort Wayne Community School students who lived near Hobson Road and East State Boulevard were held at school or on school buses immediately following the shooting. Around 3:15 p.m., FWCS announced that students would be allowed home and would be escorted directly to their homes.

Both incidents remain under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Fort Wayne Police Department at (260) 427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at (260) 436-7867.

Baldwin Creek Apartments is the same location where a man was shot and killed by police in February following an armed robbery at the CVS on E. State Boulevard.
