FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Allen County Coroner has identified the man who died after a shooting at South Bridge Apartments Thursday night.

Katahj Amard Blackmon, 23, of Fort Wayne, died from gunshot wounds. The coroner ruled Blackmon’s death a homicide last week.

This marks the 33rd homicide in Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2013.

One man is dead after being shot in the parking lot of a Fort Wayne apartment complex, according to Fort Wayne police.

At 11:16 p.m., FWPD received several 911 calls after residents at South Bridge Apartments heard gunshots and then saw a man on the ground. Police said when they arrived, they found a man in the parking lot who had been shot.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead.

FWPD spokesperson Officer Jason Anthony said the man was found near a sidewalk in the 8300 block of Bridgeway Lane. Anthony said witnesses described two men running around the corner of a nearby apartment building.

The witnesses described seeing the individuals after looking outside after they heard gunshots. A K-9 officer canvassed the area, as did several other officers, but no suspects were located.

Anthony said additional suspect information was not available.

Investigators told NewsChannel 15 four shell casings were found in the area. Some casings were found between two cars in the parking lot.

The victim had a handgun in his pocket, according to investigators. Information on whether or not the gun was used during the shooting was not immediately known.

No other weapons were found.

Detectives interviewed potential witnesses and residents of the apartment complex. Crime Scene Technicians collected and photographed evidence in the area.

Police have not released information on a possible motive for the shooting.
