Arrest made in connection with American Legion parking lot homicide

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police arrested a man Monday in connection with the shooting death of a man in the American Legion Post 148 parking lot back in June .

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, Eric Jermaine Smith, 36, of Fort Wayne, was arrested on a murder charge.

Smith is accused of shooting and killing Jabron Quantrel Totton, 37, of Fort Wayne, shortly after 3 a.m. on Sunday, June 9.

Police said that they believe Totton and Smith had gotten into an argument inside of the American Legion Post 148, located in the 700 block of E. Lewis Street, earlier in the evening. They say a short time later, he exited the bar and was shot as he was standing next to a vehicle.

Smith was taken to the Allen County Jail. Police said the incident remains under investigation with the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
