ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) A neighborhood in southwest Allen County is asking questions Monday following a homicide.
Residents said they began receiving a steady stream of phone calls soon after news of their neighbor’s death spread.
Saturday morning, someone shot 65-year-old Robert Kanyuh at his home at Lafayette Center Road in southwest Allen County.
Officer Jeremy Tinkel told NewsChannel 15 Saturday that Kanyuh was alone in his home in the 13600-block of Lafayette Center Road Saturday morning when another man came into his house at around 11 a.m. and shot him. The shooter left the scene in a vehicle.
Kanyuh was pronounced dead at Lutheran Hospital around 10 p.m. Saturday night.
Monday, NewsChannel 15 took a trip back to where the homicide happened in hopes of getting answers about potential suspects or motives.
We spoke to Kanyuh’s brother. He said the home has been burglarized before.
He believes the shooter was someone that knew Kanyuh had money.
According to the victim’s brother, the suspect came in through the back door and was met by Robert Kanyuh. He said that was when what appeared to be a home invasion turned violent.
“We’re not sure until we can further investigate it, however anybody that enters the home and shoots somebody, we consider him armed and dangerous,” Allen County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Corporal Jeremy Tinkel said.
NewsChannel 15 spoke with several neighbors but no one wanted to go on camera.
However, one homeowner that lives close by said he hasn’t been sleeping and even stayed home from work on Monday, in case the suspect chose his house next.
He’s even installing a security system.
“[We will] try to piece things together, do our investigation and try to find this guy,” Corporal Tinkel said.
The Sheriff’s Department does not believe this shooting is connected to the four shootings that happened in Fort Wayne over the weekend.
